4 to 6 million, that's the number of cystitis cases in France, per year! It's a very common infection. In fact, it 's estimated that 25 to 50% of women will experience at least one cystitis during their lifetime. This figure is largely underestimated, because many spontaneously cure their cystitis with a natural treatment. and good hydration.
What is cystitis?
Cystitis, also known as urinary tract infection, is an inflammation of the bladder that, for anatomical reasons, affects women more than men and directly influences the prevalence of this condition. Indeed, the urethra is much shorter in women than in men, which allows pathogens to colonize the bladder more easily. Many bacteria can cause cystitis, and antibiotic treatments are often preferred by doctors.
Causes of cystitis
By accurately identifying the causes, it is surely possible to avoid them... Well, in reality, not really! Because even if we can avoid certain risk factors such as the use of spermicides or poor hygiene, many causes of cystitis affect us all without us being able to really influence them.
Here are the main causes:
-
Being a woman: As mentioned earlier, the female anatomy is more prone to the occurrence of this condition.
-
Age: the risk of cystitis is increased in the elderly (less effective emptying of the bladder leading to stagnation of urine, poorer hygiene, etc.).
- Sexual intercourse: This promotes the movement of certain bacteria that can subsequently colonize the bladder. A good way to avoid this is to urinate after each act of intercourse.
- Poor hydration and an insufficiently emptied bladder: this creates an environment conducive to the proliferation of bacteria.
-
Tight-fitting clothing and synthetic materials: These are also factors that increase the occurrence of this condition.
-
Stomach problems: Transit disorders, intestinal dysbiosis or even irritable bowel syndrome can more easily lead to the multiplication of bacteria responsible for cystitis.
Symptoms of cystitis
Cystitis can be infectious or non-infectious, but in both cases the main symptoms are:
- Pain and burning sensation when urinating
- Frequent urge to urinate
- Difficulty passing urine
- Cloudy and smelly urine
- Pain in the pelvis and/or lower back
- Fever (in some cases)
- Fatigue and general malaise
Treat a cystitis with natural treatments
It is advisable to consult a doctor to avoid complications, such as a kidney infection, known as pyelonephritis. However, there are still effective natural remedies to prevent and relieve cystitis when it sets in.
Combining plants and cranberry to prevent cystitis is a smart move, as the plants will limit the proliferation of pathogens.
Now you know everything about cystitis and natural treatments to overcome it. It's your turn!
